Holiday Plans

With the approach of Memorial Day weekend, many people are preparing for the extended holiday.  It's that time of year when we get together with family and friends for cold drinks and BBQ's.  But it's also a time to reflect on those that have sacrificed themselves for our freedom.  We often forget the true meaning of Memorial Day.  A day to honor the men and women who showed outstanding bravery while in the line of duty and the families that are left with only memories of them.
I am proud to announce the 1st annual Blog Tour de Troops.  This is not your average blog tour.  You don't have to compete against other readers for a prize.  In this tour everyone wins.  Just think of it as an open bar for ebooks.  This event consists of 35 talented authors that are gifting each person that comments on their blog with one of their ebooks!  But wait, it gets even better.  Not only will you receive an ebook, but for every comment left, an ebook will also be donated to a soldier.  The generosity of these authors astounds me!
I hope you will stop by and say hi to them and help a soldier get an ebook.  If you have a specific soldier that you would like to gift it to, please let them know and they will make sure they receive it.  If you can't make the tour, click the link on my sidebar and make a donation toward sending Kindles to our troops.  No amount is too small to give.
I plan to be sitting poolside this weekend with my laptop and loading up my Kindle.  Hope to see you all on the tour!  If you do participate, the best way to thank these authors is by leaving a review for them.

One of my fave authors Amber Scott is leading this tour, so head over to her blog tomorrow and leave a comment for your copy of Irish Moon.  I loved this book and I've been bugging her to hurry up and finish book 2 Enchanted Moon.

Why Giveaways Will No Longer Be On FB

For those that don't know, FB has a policy in place in regards to contests.  Here is the link so you can read it in full http://ow.ly/4Ti6K .
Is today the first day that I'm finding out about FB's contest rules?  No.  I knew when I created my page, but figured they didn't enforce it, because so many other pages were offering contests.  Well now the word is out, they are cracking down and canceling accounts that violate their policies.  Am I mad?  Yes, but I can only blame myself, because I knew going in what their policy entailed.
So does this mean that I will stop offering giveaways?  Absolutely not!  They will now take place on my blog.  I don't want those that have been faithfully following my FB page to miss out, so I have multiple options in place to follow me.  On the right sidebar you can select Google Friend Connect, Email Subscription or Networked Blogs.  I would love it if you would follow GFC and Networked Blogs.  It makes it easier for me to see all of my FB peeps.  So hurry and sign up so we can return to our regularly scheduled contest!

Comment Posting 101

I thought I would write today's blog post about commenting.  Many people miss out on the full blogging experience, because they don't know how to post a comment.  To minimize confusion, I'll use the two most common blogging sites.  The first will be blogger and the second WordPress.  Comment links are generally found at the end of the post.

The above is an example of a pop up window in Blogger.  Enter your comment in the box.  Some bloggers will have word verification enabled.  This is to make sure you are a real person and not a spammer.  There are several options to identify yourself.  Since this is for beginners, I'm only going to cover the ones that will most likely pertain to you.  You can log in with your Google Account (password is secure and not shared), your name (typically your first name and last initial), or Anonymously.  Some bloggers may not allow you to log in anonymously.  Once you have filled in your info, click Post Comment.

The above is an example of one that will appear below the post in Blogger.  Enter your comment in the box.  From the drop down menu you can either select Google, Name or Anonymous.  Once you have filled in your info, click Post Comment.  If word verification is enabled, you will have to complete that before it will finish posting.

The above is an example from WordPress.  This only requires your name (first and last initial) and email address.  If word verification is enabled you will need to complete that as well.

Some bloggers may have restrictions on who can comment.  I only showed examples where restrictions were removed.  If moderation is enabled, your post will not appear right away.  This means they need to approve your comment before it can be posted.

If you are posting for a contest, they may ask you to enter your email address with your comment.  To avoid spammers, enter it as elena(at)elenagray(dot)com.

Don't be afraid to comment on a blog.  Just be respectful and have fun!

How about a little test.  Post a comment here.  You can say hi, or let me know that this is your first time posting.

Books Before Movies

I went to see Water for Elephants with a group of friends the other night.  The book was in my TBR pile, but since I knew the movie was coming out I postponed reading it.

I wanted to experience the movie without comparing it to the book.  I didn't want to be jaded in my opinion and wanted to be able to give it a fair chance.  They always say the book is better than the movie.  Well that's because we use our own imagination to visualize what the characters will look like and how the setting is portrayed.  If the movie doesn't share those same perceptions, then we leave disappointed.

Adapting a book to film is difficult.  How do you take a lengthy novel and condense it into a 2 hr movie and still do the book justice?  The movie has to appease those that have read the book and those that haven't.

That being said, half of us read the book and the other half hadn't, but we all loved it.  Reese and Rob had great chemistry and the creation of the circus was impressive.  It takes you on a behind the scenes look at how difficult circus life was during the Depression.  It was heart wrenching to see how expendable these people were and how everyone turned a blind eye as to how they were treated.

I'm not sure if the book will remain on my shelf or if I will eventually pick it up and read it now that I know the outcome.

Have you read a book that you had a difficult time finishing, but ended up enjoying the film or vice versa?

Review Fierce Dawn

Amber Scott has done it again!  Angels aren't the only winged heroes!

How do you tell a mortal that they are about to cross into the realm of immortality?  A world completely different from their own.  Well Elijah Stokes is about to find out.

Sadie Graves thinks she's losing her mind.  Her dreams are filled with a sexy winged man seducing her in bed.  She doesn't expect that man to walk into her life and transport her into the middle of a nightmare.

Someone or something is after Sadie and Elijah is the only one that can save her.  But will she be able to forgive him when she finds out the real reason he's helping her.

Be prepared to lose sleep!  I had a hard time putting this book down!  The chemistry between Sadie and Elijah sizzles.  Amber knows how to turn up the heat!  She takes you on a roller coaster ride that you won't want to end.  I can't wait for Stealing Dusk, Book 2 in the series!

If you haven't read a book by Amber Scott, you're missing out!

Fierce Dawn will be spotlighted on Best Seller for a Day on May 18th for .99.  But wait!  It get's better!  If you purchase Fierce Dawn on May 18th, you will get 3 additional books free!  Where else can you get 4 books for .99?
